About

Ingerid Annette Saxe – trombones

Based in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Member of the Danish Radio Big Band since 2000. First woman to hold a chair in the band. Still the only one.

Classically trained, Saxe is an examined trombone educator from Rogaland Musikkonservatorium (now UiS, Stavanger, Norway), she holds a diploma in trombone performance from the Royal Academy of Music (Aarhus), and a conductor’s exam from the Royal Danish Academy of Music (Copenhagen).

Three milestones with a huge impact:

At 16, attending a course starring Michel Bequet

At 22, taking lessons with Arnold Jacobs in Chicago

At 25, invited to a week of daily masterclasses with Christian Lindberg

In addition to 25+ years as a steady member of the DRBB, Saxe’s professional background includes two years with the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra and one year with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra. Doubling on tenor and bass trombone in all of them.

Saxe’s trombone is to be heard on the numerous albums released by the DRBB over the past decades. The Danish Music Award-winning and internationally recognized album Maluba Orchestra even includes her tuba.

As an inspirator, Saxe runs her project ‘The Millennium Trombones’ under the wings of the bi-annual Danish Trombone Festival, aiming to add new, contemporary music to the trombone ensemble repertoire.
